Several Arizona Cardinals players have been regulars in the trade rumor mill as of late, including wide receiver Marquise Brown. However, Brown may end up staying put with the Cardinals past the upcoming NFL trade deadline.
In an ESPN+ column published on Friday, NFL insider Jeremy Fowler shared updates on the futures of multiple players around the league. In the case of Brown, Fowler noted that he does not "foresee" the Cardinals parting ways with the wideout this month "barring surprise."
Fowler did add that overall, "some execs believe" that the Cardinals, who sit in last place in the NFC West standings with a 1-5 record, are "open for business.”
Brown’s long-term future with the Cardinals is up in the air, especially as he is set to hit free agency after this season. The 2019 first-round pick is currently playing in the final year of his rookie contract. Arizona opted to trigger the fifth-year option of the wideout's contract ahead of the 2022 campaign.
Brown has emerged as a go-to target for Cardinals quarterback Joshua Dobbs this season. The former Oklahoma standout currently leads the Cardinals in several stats, including receiving yards (334). He has also tallied three touchdown catches this year — the same amount that he logged in 12 games played last season.
For now, Brown is set to feature in the Cardinals’ upcoming road matchup against the Seattle Seahawks.
