The Arizona Cardinals were over 2,000 miles away when Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley performed his now famous backwards hurdle. Barkley victimized the lowly Jacksonville Jaguars back on November 3 while the Cards blew out the Chicago Bears that afternoon.
You'll likely never see Barkley pull that move out against a Cardinals defender, at least not in real life.
EA Sports Madden NFL 25 announced this week that Barkley's move has been added to the game. That's cool! But the game decided to showcase the news with Barkley doing it against the Cardinals for some reason.
ESPN's Adam Schefter posted the clip of the reveal as Barkley reverse-hurdled over Arizona cornerback Starling Thomas V in a practice setting. Thomas doesn't even have a nameplate on the back of his #24 jersey, and it's not even the Cardinals' current uniforms.
Like, why? Why not show Barkley doing the move against the team he originally did it against? The Jaguars already have to live in that shame. They can do so virtually. Why pick on the Cardinals for no reason? Arizona shows up first alphabetically when choosing an opponent, so maybe it's just EA being lazy when putting this together.
Also, why showcase this so casually like it's some random player recording a replay? No cinematic flair or anything to sell the addition, and in a practice setting? Questions all around.
Thomas, a second-year player, has taken strides as a starter for the Cardinals' defense. He's allowed just 55% of passes targeted his way to be completed with three passes defensed. His name isn't well-known in NFL circles, but he doesn't deserve to be owned by Barkley unnecessarily. He at least should have a clip of him hit-sticking Barkley in return.
Thomas and Arizona will look to stay in first-place in the NFC West this weekend when facing the Seattle Seahawks.
