Unlikely candidate pegged as likely player to have a breakout 2024 campaign
It is hard to believe an inconsistent Arizona Cardinals wide receiver will find stability, but Pro Football Focus thinks he will.
Wide receiver Michael Wilson wasn't the model of consistency during the 2023 campaign.
He recorded 565 receiving yards, three touchdowns and 58 receptions in what was a mediocre season.
But Pro Football Focus believes he has the potential to burst onto the scene in 2024.
"Wilson had a solid rookie season despite the Cardinals' quarterback issues," Gordon McGuinness of Pro Football Focus writes. "Particularly appealing for his 2024 prospects is how he ended 2023: averaging 3.52 yards per route run in the season finale and catching all six targets thrown his way for 95 yards."
The third-round pick in the 2023 NFL draft had a few stretches of quality play. He had six games where he broke the 50-yard total. And that was with all of the Cardinals' quarterback struggles.
His best game came in a Jan. 7 matchup with the Seattle Seahawks. He notched six catches on six targets for 95 yards, averaging 15.8 yards per catch.
Wilson's longest catch of the season came against the Dallas Cowboys on Sept. 29, when he went for 69 yards.
If he breaks out in the 2024 season, it will be because the Cardinals finally have consistent quarterback play. That is not something the 24-year-old wide receiver has had in his short career.
