Former Tennessee Vols quarterback Josh Dobbs, a fourth round selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, didn't start his first NFL regular season game until Week 17 last season.
Dobbs started the final two games of the 2023 regular season for the Tennessee Titans, nearly leading them to the playoffs.
This past Sunday, Dobbs made his third straight regular season start — this time for the Arizona Cardinals.
Dobbs, who signed with the Cleveland Browns during the offseason, was traded to Arizona just before the start of the 2023 season.
The former Tennessee standout started the Cardinals' season-opener in place of quarterback Kyler Murray, who is still recovering from the torn ACL he suffered last season.
Arizona dropped their opener to the Washington Commanders, falling 20-16 on the road. Dobbs, however, played well, completing 21-of-30 passes for 132 yards with 0 touchdowns and 0 interceptions.
Dobbs' play was good enough to earn another start.
Cardinals head coach Jonathan Gannon announced on Monday that Dobbs will start in Arizona's home opener against the New York Giants on Sunday afternoon.
Dobbs isn't in the best situation in Arizona — the Cardinals are a good bet to have one of the top selections in the 2024 NFL Draft. But it's an opportunity that Dobbs likely believed would never come. And it's obvious that he hopes to make the most of his chance in Arizona.
