Atlanta Falcons backup quarterback Taylor Heinicke took over starting quarterback duties in the second half of Sunday's game against the Tennessee Titans.

It was first reported that Desmond Ridder had been sidelined for a concussion evaluation.

He was cleared to play at halftime, though head coach Arthur Smith opted to go with Heinicke anyway, thus benching Ridder.

It's unclear if Ridder has officially been benched moving forward, but he has for at least this game. We'll know more when head coach Arthur Smith speaks to the media after the game.

Ridder completed an embarrassing 8 of 12 passes for 71 yards through the first two quarters. He lost his fourth fumble in a span of two weeks. That one marked his 12th altogether in giveaways, which leads the NFL–a category that you do not want to lead the league in.

Heinicke stepped in place of Ridder as the Falcons trailed 14-3 at the half.
