The Atlanta Falcons will have one less player to worry about when they take on the Detroit Lions in Week 3.
According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Lions' starting safety CJ Gardner-Johnson will be sidelined indefinitely with a torn pectoral sustained in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
While that's devastating news for Detroit's secondary, that's great news for a Falcons offense that's still looking to find its rhythm under young quarterback Desmond Ridder.
Although Gardner-Johnson has had one of the worst luck with injuries, he still remains arguably one of the best defensive backs in the NFL.
Just last season he had registered six interceptions with the Philadelphia Eagles which tied for the most picks in the league, even after he had missed five games with a lacerated kidney.
Prior to his latest injury, Gardner-Johnson had already logged 13 tackles and two pass breakups through two games this season.
Gardner-Johnson isn't the only challenge that the Falcons won't have to worry about facing on Sunday as the Lions will also be without their starting running back, David Montgomery.
Montgomery suffered a thigh injury against Seattle and was carted off the field.
Despite two huge blows to their starting lineup, Detroit is still surprisingly the favored team to win in Week 3 over a healthy Falcons squad.
