The Atlanta Falcons are moving on from head coach Arthur Smith after three 7-10 losing seasons.
And they already have a replacement in mind.
According to The Athletic's insider Dianna Russini, the Falcons are 'interested' in bringing on Bill Belichick, pending a potential breakup with the New England Patriots.
Yes, the same coach who crushed Atlanta's Super Bowl LI dreams is on Arthur Blank's radar.
New England finished the 2023 regular season with four wins and 13 losses, leaving many to speculate that the Patriots will be looking for a change after 24 seasons under Belichick.
The six-time Super Bowl champion head coach met with the Patriots media this morning, expressing a strong desire to stay in New England.
"I'm not going to get into a lot of hypothetical situations," Belichick said when asked about his potential departure from the team. "Yeah, I'm going to focus on what I can control and focus on, and that's my work ethic and my effort to do what I can to help the Patriots organization, which I'm heavily invested in."
Belichick is scheduled to meet owner Robert Kraft this week to discuss his future with the team. The Patriots can't just fire Belichick since he is under a guaranteed contract, which means they would be looking to trade him in return for some kind of compensation.
If the Patriots end up moving on from Belichick and the Falcons can land him, then it's no secret that he would be a massive upgrade from what they were dealing with under Smith.
