The Atlanta Falcons are interested in winning football games and proving that they deserve a spot in the discussion for the NFC South title this season. Their latest roster decision, surprisingly on special teams, was one that was probably difficult. On the flip-side, it certainly gives Atlanta more stability in their kicking game.

Falcons move on from kicker Younghoe Koo

According to Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are releasing kicker Younghoe Koo. This move comes after just one strong performance from newly-added boot Parker Romo.

Koo became a fan favorite early on during his time in Atlanta, but struggles stemming back to the middle of last season left the Falcons no choice but to move and choose a new starter.

“The #Falcons release of K Younghoe Koo leaves behind dead cap hits of: 2025: $5.5M 2026: $1.25M

Koo’s $4.25M salary for 2025 became fully guaranteed during Week 1.” — Spotrac

Parker Romo gets rewarded by Atlanta with new deal

The latest addition at kicker for the Falcons is signing a two-year deal with Atlanta. He’s headed to the active roster, and we can expect him to stick around on there. Romo nailed all of his field goal attempts in Week 2, helping the Falcons secure a victory.

This move gives the kicker a bit more comfort going forward. The job is his in Atlanta, and he’s locked in with the team for the foreseeable future. Of course, if massive struggles begin in the kicking game for them again, then they would be forced to move on from him.

That being said, they’ve got a lot of confidence in Romo. He gets a pay day for exactly that reason.
