According to multiple reports, the Atlanta Falcons are heavily interested in pursuing Bill Belichick, pending a breakup from the New England Patriots, as their future head coach.
However, there's a new hot commodity that's available right now.
The Tennessee Titans fired head coach Mike Vrabel on Tuesday after six years together, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
The Falcons should waste no time picking up the phone to request an interview with Vrabel.
The former NFL Coach of the Year joined Tennessee in 2018 where he led them to four straight winning seasons, back-to-back AFC South championships, and clinched the top seed in the AFC in 2021 — only to lose to the Cincinnati Bengals.
Since then, the Titans have experienced back-to-back losing records, including a disappointing 6-11 finish this year, leaving Tennessee wanting change.
Although things have not panned out too well for Vrabel over the last two years, he's done more good than bad with the Titans, which is something that the Falcons can't say about Arthur Smith.
If Vrabel were to come to Atlanta, his biggest task would be to produce a future franchise quarterback. The Falcons already have endless offensive weapons, so it wouldn't be too much of a tall task to ask.
Vrabel proved to be a genius in the run game after coaching Derrick Henry to four Pro Bowls and an All-Pro nod. The Falcons drafted Bijan Robinson last year, whose elite talent has yet to be maximized. There's no doubt that Vrabel could do just that while mixing up schemes to resurrect tight end Kyle Pitts' and wide receiver Drake London's careers.
Additionally, Vrabel, a former NFL linebacker and defensive coordinator himself, would have no problem perfecting an already stacked defense.
Sure, Belichick would also be an upgrade from Smith, but he would cost a lot more than Vrabel since he is under contract with the Patriots who will be looking to trade him for compensation rather than fire him.
The Falcons shouldn't wait for the Pats to make up their mind and go all in on Vrabel.
