The Atlanta Falcons have interviewed a handful of coaches for their open head coach position, but one remains higher on their radar than others.
According to NFL Network's James Palmer and Ian Rapoport, the Falcons were "very impressed" by Houston Texans offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik's first interview and set up a second in-person interview with him for later this week.
Falcons insider, Steve Wyche, also chimed in on Palmer's report and said, "very," to reiterate that Slowik is one of Atlanta's top candidates.
Slowik AKA the QB Whisperer
Slowik, 36, is an intriguing candidate since he comes with both defensive and offensive experience.
The New Jersey native kicked off his coaching career in 2011 as a defensive assistant for the then-Washington Redskins under Mike Shanahan.
Three seasons later, he was hired by Kyle Shanahan as the San Francisco 49ers' defensive quality control coach.
In 2019, he switched to the offensive side of the ball as an assistant and was promoted to the Niners' passing game coordinator specialist in 2021. The following year, he was named the 49ers' passing game coordinator. It was in that role where Slowik helped develop rookie quarterback Brock Purdy to lead San Francisco to 10 straight wins and an NFC Championship appearance.
As the Houston Texans' offense coordinator this past season, Slowik did the same with rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud. Stroud finished his first NFL season as the favorite for the Offensive Rookie of the Year Award after throwing for 4,108 yards and 23 touchdowns.
The Falcons' biggest need this offseason is finding their future franchise quarterback and it's obvious that they would benefit greatly by hiring a QB whisperer like Slowik.
