The Atlanta Falcons have Calvin Ridley's Week 1 debut to thank for their freshly acquired 2024 fourth-round pick.

The Falcons initially traded Ridley to the Jacksonville Jaguars last November. In return, the Falcons received a 2023 fifth-round pick and a conditional 2024 fourth-rounder. All it took was for Ridley to suit up and play in the Jaguars' regular-season opener in order to lock in that 2024 draft pick.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Falcons could end up receiving up to a second-round pick instead if Ridley checks off certain incentives.

Schefter explained how:

According to league sources, the fourth-round pick becomes a third-round pick if Ridley plays at least 60% of the Jaguars' offensive snaps or records either 75 receptions or 1,000 receiving yards….If Ridley, who is in the final year of his contract, re-signs with Jacksonville, the conditional pick to the Falcons would become a second-rounder, sources said. Ridley is not expected to sign an extension at any point this season and will wait until after the season to begin negotiations, sources said,"- Adam Schefter, ESPN

Ridley made his presence known in Week 1's 31-21 win over the Indianapolis Colts, catching eight passes for 101 yards and a touchdown.

If he keeps up those kinds of numbers, the Falcons will have no problem getting more in return.

The Falcons selected Ridley with the No. 26 overall pick out of Alabama back in 2018. Through four years in Atlanta, Ridley logged 248 passes for 3,342 yards and 28 touchdowns.

Before the Falcons traded him, Ridley had stepped away from football in 2021 for mental health reasons. He was then suspended in 2021 following a league gambling investigation.

After nearly two years away from the game, it looks like Ridley is ready to have his number called, which will benefit both the Jaguars and the Falcons.
