The Atlanta Falcons may not be using Kyle Pitts the way he could or should be used in their offense, but that doesn't mean they're ready to give him up.
On Tuesday, NFL Network's Jane Slater shut down rumors surrounding a Pitts trade to the Dallas Cowboys.
"The Cowboys are always looking to bolster their offense, so when I heard a show say Dallas should call Atlanta to see if Kyle Pitts is available, I checked into it. A source with the Falcons’ answer when I asked 'LOL. No way," Slater said on X/Twitter.
Slater's curiosity conspired when ESPN's Robert Griffin III suggested the Cowboys look into a trade for Pitts to accommodate their offensive needs.
"But if I was the Cowboys right now, they don't have a mismatch at tight end. They have the personnel outside, but that tight end is the one that they're missing," Griffin said on Monday Night Countdown (via Heavy.com's Jonathan Adams). "I would be banging at the Atlanta Falcons' door right now to try to go and get Kyle Pitts. They need a player like that. …They gotta find a way to find a mismatch in the red zone."
Through three weeks, Pitts has reeled in just nine catches for 100 yards with no touchdowns for the 2-1 Falcons.
The Falcons rely heavily on the run game, but if they don't start using Pitts more, then you can be on the prowl for a new home himself.
For now, Pitts is staying in Atlanta.
Season-ending fears emerge for Falcons’ key starter
