Atlanta Falcons' new head coach Raheem Morris had his introductory press conference on Monday, Feb. 5 and of course, he was asked what the future looks like at the quarterback position.
While Morris said he and the front office have been more focused on filling out their coaching staff, he did share his quarterback vision, making it clear that he wants someone with elite talent.
"We've got a real good vision," Morris said. "And obviously, it will be a shared vision between myself, Terry, and our coaching staff and a lot of this scouting staff. And the people we're going to involve in that whole process, but we've got a real, clear understanding of what it looks like in Atlanta. We've seen it at a very high level.
"Right? What was Matt Ryan? You talk about people that you've coached. I just came from what 'real, clear' looks like at quarterback when you're talking about Matthew Stafford. But when you get those guys that are elite processors. And you get those guys that are decision-makers. You get those guys that can just cut it loose and play ball and also with those great fundamental techniques … it makes you excited. Right? To go out there and find those things."
The way Morris was talking sounds like Atlanta is either going to look toward the draft, which is stacked with quarterbacks, free agency, or even a potential trade for a veteran QB.
But whatever direction the Falcons decide to go in, Morris plans on watching a lot of tape and paying attention to detail.
"Sometimes it's not easy to see," Morris said of the process. "Obviously, sometimes you've got to look at some college tape. Sometimes you can see a little bit more from each tape. Sometimes you can visualize how you can trade. But you've got all those windows out there, you've got all those avenues. But I've got a lot of confidence in the people that are going to help me be a part of finding our next quarterback to move forward."
The Falcons have not had the best of luck at quarterback over the last three seasons, so hopefully Morris and his vision are the spark that this franchise desperately needs and he finds the right guy to put under center.
