Brock Purdy had a performance to forget in the San Francisco 49ers’ home loss to the Baltimore Ravens on Monday.
Purdy threw a career-high four interceptions against the Ravens’ No. 1 ranked defense, with three of them coming in the first half.
Purdy’s first interception of the contest came on a play that sure caught him off guard. He attempted to connect with Deebo Samuel in the end zone, but Ravens safety Kyle Hamilton was there at the right place and at the right time to haul in Baltimore’s first takeaway of the game.
Purdy tipped his hat to Baltimore’s defense for its well-rounded showing on the day.
"They were sound in what they did," Purdy said during his postgame press conference. "I feel like they did a good job all around, starting with their front, the guys in their secondary. They did a good job just all around. And so, they're a good team in general. When they had the momentum, they kept it rolling.
"Felt like there was just like some tight windows and stuff, not a lot of room for error in terms of my decision-making. But overall, they did a good job. They came ready to play."
George Kittle had himself a productive outing against the Ravens, tallying seven catches for 126 receiving yards. As with Purdy, Kittle gave props to Baltimore’s defense for being as unpredictable as could be in the contest.
"Looking at it, they did a really good job," Kittle said during his postgame press conference. "On the first couple series, they came out and had different defensive fronts the whole time. You’re trying to go against nickel but you're going against base five with four down. You’re trying to call the right play to go against those things and I think we're doing a pretty good job with that. That’s difficult, and I don't know if that hurt our rhythm or routes at all like that. I'm going to give them credit.
"They won the game forcing five turnovers. … They obviously did a great job of taking away our middle stuff."
The 49ers are still in the driver’s seat to lock up the No. 1 seed in the NFC. On the other hand, a win for Baltimore over the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 would clinch it the top spot in the AFC.
Ravens QB Lamar Jackson reveals what really happened on the controversial safety vs. 49ers
The San Francisco 49ers opened up the scoring against the Baltimore Ravens in quite a bizarre way. The 49ers were awarded a safety during the first quarter of the contest thanks to an intentional grounding penalty committed by Lamar Jackson in the end zone. San Francisco received a bit of unexpected help from referee Alex […]
