The New England Patriots lost one popular player ahead of their Week 15 clash against the Kansas City Chiefs.
Malik Cunningham impressed many during the preseason, but hasn't been given a true shot during the regular season.
But one team is taking advantage of his availability.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the Baltimore Ravens have signed Malik Cunningham to their active roster from the Patriots practice squad.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson has been very complimentary of Cunningham, with the two both having played college ball at Louisville. They even played together during the 2017 season.
And now they are reuniting.
Cunningham spoke to ESPN on Tuesday morning, releasing a statement.
"I wanted to thank Mr Kraft and Coach Belichick for giving me opportunity to play with the Patriots," he said. "I learned a lot from them. I want to be a coach one day, so I would take notes from coach Belichick because he’s one of the greatest of all time. I had great teammates in New England and built relationships that will last a lifetime. But I just feel like this is a good opportunity for me and I’m excited to be a Baltimore Raven.”
The opportunity to be on the active roster was too good to pass up after the Patriots truly did not take advantage of him while on the team.
He began the season on the practice squad, but was promoted to the active roster on Oct. 14. Just 10 days later, he was released and signed back to the practice squad.
Since being re-signed, he has been elevated twice, both times being when Bailey Zappe was named as the starter.
However, he hasn't taken a single snap during those games. So now he gets the chance to possibly play a little more in Baltimore.
