Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is widely expected to win the 2023 AP NFL MVP award today.
Jackson rose to the occasion for the Ravens this season. From his crucial performances in primetime games to his video game-like outings in December, Jackson delivered when it mattered the most for Baltimore.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes kept a close watch on Jackson throughout the season. Mahomes is much impressed that four seasons after Jackson took home the 2019 AP NFL MVP honor, the sixth-year passer simply continues to improve across the board.
"He continues to get better," Mahomes said ahead of Super Bowl 58. "He’s a competitor, and he wants to win. All you want to do in this league is get better, year in and year out, and you’ve seen that from Lamar.
"It’s hard when you win the MVP that first season, then strive to get better and he’s done that. That’s probably why he will win the MVP here in a couple of days."
Mahomes added that he does not like facing Jackson because "I know he’s going to make plays all over the football field."
Mahomes holds the bragging rights against Jackson. Mahomes boasts a 4-1 record in such matchups, including the playoffs.
