The anticipation has been mounting for the debut of the Baltimore Ravens’ new-look offense. The unit will get its first test when it meets the Houston Texans in Week 1.
With a revamped offensive system in place implemented by first-year Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken, it all plays quite a disadvantage to Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans, who is set to call the defensive plays for his team against Baltimore. Ryans could take some time to watch film from Baltimore’s three preseason games, but he may come away with more questions than answers about the unit considering that the first-team offense did not share the field for a single snap.
Ryans is looking forward to the “challenge” that will come in game planning against Baltimore’s rejuvenated offense.
"It’s a challenge because you don’t know what you’re going to get," Ryans said during a press conference on Monday. "It’s a lot of unknown, and that’s every first game. There’s a lot of unknown with the first game in the NFL every year, so you trust your technique, trust your fundamentals, trust our preparation and what we’ve been working on all throughout training camp.
"And guys just have to be where they’re supposed to be and playing as 11. The first game, it’s truly all about us."
Overall, Baltimore’s offense will look to bounce back a season after which it ranked 19th in points per game with a 20.6 average.
