Baltimore Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta bolstered his team's front seven depth in August when he signed Jadeveon Clowney to a one-year deal.
DeCosta’s call to bring in Clowney was initially viewed as a low-risk, high-reward move. While Clowney was just coming off of a forgettable final season with the Cleveland Browns, he did show at times last year that he could still cause havoc in the backfield.
Through nine games played in the 2023 season, Clowney has made DeCosta look like a genius.
Clowney has turned back the clock with Baltimore this year. He may not possess the breakout speed and overwhelming strength that made him a force to be reckoned with during his early days with the Houston Texans. Nonetheless, the veteran pass rusher has shown that he still has plenty left in the tank at this stage in his career.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh has been left in awe of Clowney ever since the linebacker’s first day with the team.
"Jadeveon Clowney has played great," Harbaugh said during a press conference in September. "It's a great point and question. He's done a great job. We've always thought the world of him as a player, playing against him, and when you have to scheme against him — the point that you are all making — it's really tough.
"When you face guys like that, and then you have a chance for them to play for you, you're excited about that. He's played really well. He fits what we're doing well and plays hard. I'm glad he's here."
Clowney is one of five Ravens players who have tallied at least 3.0 sacks this season. At this rate, he may be in line for another one-year deal with Baltimore.
