The Baltimore Ravens are set to host the Houston Texans on Sunday in what can be viewed as an under-the-radar Week 1 contest.

There are plenty of storylines to watch for the Ravens ahead of Week 1. Baltimore is set to roll out a new-look offense implemented by Todd Monken, who was hired in February to replace Greg Roman as the team’s offensive coordinator. From the injury return of Lamar Jackson to the expected Ravens debut of Odell Beckham Jr., the anticipation for Baltimore's upcoming regular season opener has been one unlike any other for the AFC North side.

Will Baltimore’s offense live up to the hype early on?

The talk of the town within the Ravens organization during the offseason centered on the moves that team general manager Eric DeCosta pulled off to rejuvenate the offense. As mentioned, Monken will work with the Ravens’ first-team offense for the first time in a game on Sunday, while the likes of Beckham and Zay Flowers are set to make their Ravens debuts.

At the end of the day, success for Baltimore’s offense this season will hinge on Jackson. The Ravens sure are not counting on the two-time Pro Bowler to mirror his NFL MVP award-winning campaign from the 2019 season, but a potent year from the all-around quarterback could go a long way in Baltimore’s hopes of snapping its AFC North title drought.

Can Jadeveon Clowney turn back the clock against his former team?

It seems as if in every offseason, the Ravens opt to bolster their pass rush with a veteran signing. This offseason was no different for Baltimore. After watching Calais Campbell and Justin Houston take their talents elsewhere, Baltimore went out and reached an agreement on a one-year deal with Jadeveon Clowney in August.

Clowney is set to meet his former team in the Texans for the fourth time on Sunday. He has logged seven total tackles, two quarterback hits, and zero sacks in three previous encounters against Houston. Baltimore sure will count on him to help its pass rush make life difficult for Texans passer C.J. Stroud in Week 1.

2 players to watch (who aren’t Lamar Jackson)

Patrick Queen

Ravens linebacker Patrick Queen enters the 2023 season with much to prove after the team elected to decline his fifth-year option in May. Will he go out and show that Baltimore made the wrong call on this matter?

Nelson Agholor

Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans is set to call the defensive plays for his team on Sunday. He may call on his defensive unit to keep a close watch on wideouts Beckham and Flowers throughout the contest, which could then provide a valuable opportunity for Nelson Agholor to shine in his Ravens debut.
