In what seemed inevitable for weeks, Mike Macdonald bid farewell to the Baltimore Ravens on Wednesday.

Macdonald agreed to become the next head coach of the Seattle Seahawks. He reportedly came to terms with the Seahawks on a six-year contract deal.

Macdonald is coming off of a potent season in what turned out to be his final year as Ravens defensive coordinator. The Ravens led the NFL in multiple stats in the regular season, including points per game allowed (16.5).

Ravens head coach John Harbaugh had hoped to see Macdonald stay put with the team.

"We would've loved to keep Mike, but no, we couldn't keep him," Harbaugh said during an end-of-season press conference on Friday. "He was going to go take that job. He was excited about it, and we're happy for him."

The Ravens did not take long to find Macdonald’s replacement. They named Zachary Orr as their new defensive coordinator on Thursday. Orr served as Ravens inside linebackers coach over the past two seasons.

Harbaugh is much looking forward to seeing Orr anchor Baltimore’s defense next season.

“There's no reason not to put Zach in that position in my mind," Harbaugh said. "I think he will do a great job."

The Ravens will formally introduce Orr as their new defensive coordinator next week.
