Zay Flowers had a second half to forget in the Baltimore Ravens’ AFC title game defeat to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Ravens were in desperate need of an offensive spark in the second half, and Flowers provided just that with a 54-yard reception. The Ravens did move up just 39 yards after Flowers' catch, as he ended up being flagged for a 15-yard penalty following the play.
It was just four plays later that Flowers stunned the packed crowd at M&T Bank Stadium.
Flowers attempted to extend his arms to reach the end zone on an 8-yard catch, but Chiefs L’Jarius Sneed was there at the right place and at the right time to punch the ball out of the rookie’s hands to force a fumble.
During his postgame press conference, Lamar Jackson shied away from directing the blame to Flowers for the Ravens’ loss on the day but rather came to his defense.
"We all make mistakes," Jackson said. "It's his first season. It's my first time in this situation. It's his first time in this situation. We're going to bounce back. Nobody played the game perfect."
Flowers noted after the game that he believed that he broke the plane on the play. At the end of the day, he plans to "learn from my mistakes."
Flowers led the Ravens in multiple stats in the regular season, including in receiving yards (858).
