NFL players chime in on heated quarterback debate ahead of Week 1 showdown between Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and rival Josh Allen
Ravens and Bills fans love to debate who is better between Lamar and Josh. It’s splitting hairs — but NFL players have now chimed in.
The rivalry between the Baltimore Ravens and the Buffalo Bills is set to ignite once again. The Ravens and Bills will have the NFL world to themselves on Sunday Night Football during the opening weekend of play, a fitting showcase for two teams that went down to the wire in the AFC Divisional Round last winter. An emerging subplot of the Bills/Ravens rivalry in recent years has been the fan debate that exists between quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Josh Allen, the league’s two most recent winners of the Most Valuable Player Award. There’s no question that a mutual respect exists between the two players. But the fans? Let’s just say it gets contentious.
We’ll see who ultimately wins the war on Sunday night between these two teams. But Lamar Jackson scored himself a win in the battle of discourse against Josh Allen on Tuesday — Jackson was voted one spot ahead of Allen and tabbed the league’s best quarterback by his peers in the annual NFL Top 100 Players list.
Lamar Jackson finishes at No. 2 in the 2025 NFL Top 100 voting by NFL players
Jackson would ultimately finish behind Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley for the top spot in the player voting, but that’s a minor detail to those who are invested in the fan battle between Jackson and Allen. Lamar edged Josh Allen by one spot, with the two quarterbacks coming off of spectacular seasons in 2024.
Allen boasts an MVP trophy for his campaign and a head-to-head win against Jackson in the playoffs this past season, whereas Jackson posted a swath of career-best numbers and eye-popping production — including a mind-numbingly high 9.38 adjusted net yards per attempt on 474 passing attempts (a career high). If the recent years are any indication, both Jackson and Allen will be better versions of themselves again this year and we can all spend all offseason debating who is better between the two once again. But for now, the NFL’s players have spoken.
And Lamar Jackson was voted as the league’s best quarterback by his peers going into 2025.

It's hard to imagine what else Lamar Jackson has to do, other than win the big one. The Baltimore Ravens' quarterback has exploded with his passing production over the past two years, illustrating the kind of growth that adds layers into his game to make him even more difficult to defend. It also should add years […]
