The Baltimore Ravensterrible start to the season just got even worse. After a neck injury had developed for defensive tackle Nnamdi Madubuike following Baltimore’s second game of the season, there was a lot of holding of breath that the worst case scenarios could be avoided. All of that hope has come up empty, however. Madubuike, as it was announced by head coach John Harbaugh on Monday, is out for the season.

Madubuike was placed on injured reserve over the weekend, but it’s now been officially confirmed that he is out for the season. It’s a devastating blow to a Ravens front that has been walloped by injuries already. As if the news for Madubuike wasn’t concerning enough as is, John Harbaugh’s response regarding his long-term outlook paints a picture of plenty of uncertainty.

John Harbaugh stays non-committal to the long-term outlook of Nnamdi Madubuike’s season-ending neck injury

“In terms of what I’m allowed to tell you, a lot of that is something he needs to address with you guys in his time. I really can’t speak for him, I wouldn’t want to. Those are questions that would be best answered by him going forward and he may be still getting some information on that as well. (I’ll) leave that for him to answer.”

This does not sound like a run of the mill injury. Harbaugh should be commended for protecting Madubuike’s privacy as this saga continues to unfold, but the speculation on the matter is only going to ramp up until we do get to hear from Madubuike himself. Here’s hoping that the time away and information gathering from the doctors gives him the needed clarity to set a course to full recovery and we see him on the field again sooner rather than later.

We do know, however, that won’t be until 2026 at the earliest.
