Ravens announce surprising decision that will impact every player on the roster bubble’s opportunity to make their case for a roster spot
Roster bubble players will now have one less opportunity to make their case against different competition.
The Baltimore Ravens are off today but still managed to grab a pretty notable headline nonetheless. This one, however, doesn’t just impact one roster spot or a starting job — it impacts essentially every fringe roster hopeful for the Ravens.
Baltimore has announced that the team will no longer be holding a joint practice with the Washington Commanders next week.
Ravens announce mutual decision to cancel joint practice with the Washington Commanders
“Recognizing the logistical challenges — with our teams’ previous games scheduled on different days — and the added strain on players heading into a short week, the Ravens and Commanders mutually agreed to no longer hold a joint practice next week. Instead, we will concentrate on preparing for our upcoming preseason matchup.”

The Ravens are set to play their second preseason contest of the month this Saturday at 7PM in Dallas before returning home. Their final preseason contest, at Washington, is scheduled for Saturday, August 23rd at noon. Washington’s second preseason contest is set for Monday night at 8PM — which would have created quite the short turnaround and stress for the Commanders.
The decision is understandable but does put more pressure on the fringe 53-man roster players. Their opportunities to make an impression against new competition was just halved for the last week of the preseason. With cuts awaiting on the other side of the game in Washington, the preseason contest next Saturday just became all that much more important.
The good news? This decision was announced on the front end of Baltimore’s second preseason matchup. So those young players and fringe contenders will be able to add that little bit of extra juice from a lost opportunity into their showing against the Cowboys, too. Let’s see who steps up.
