Baltimore Ravens cornerback Arthur Maulet’s departure from the Pittsburgh Steelers was one that came suddenly.

The Steelers parted ways with Maulet in May after the sixth-year cornerback requested to be released. Maulet reportedly asked for his release because of a "difference in opinion" regarding his contract.

Maulet is just coming off of a 2022 season with the Steelers in which he posted career bests in several stats, including completion percentage on targets (61.5 percent). His snap count on the defensive side of the ball increased compared to the 2021 season, but still, there were a few reasons why he requested to hit free agency in May.

"I was just trusting that my work in the offseason and the work that I put in," Maulet said during a press conference on Wednesday. "… Obviously, I'm a vet [in] year seven. I just wanted a little something to … A little security [and] just to feel comfortable.

"I think I earned that, and Baltimore gave me that which was surprising that it was a rivalry team, right? So, obviously they believe in me, and that just shows … That just makes me feel good about the work I put in the offseason."

It took Maulet a while to find a new home in the NFL, but he ended up signing off on a one-year, $1.08 million deal with the Ravens in late July. The veteran slot cornerback wound up making the Ravens’ initial 53-man roster despite missing the team’s preseason schedule due to a hamstring injury.

Maulet now has his sights set on making the most out of his upcoming run in Baltimore.

“Now that I'm here, I'm just focused on just being better every day, getting healthy and helping this team win," Maulet said.

“That's all I'm about right now, just being a team player and just helping where I can."
