The depths of the Baltimore Ravens’ defensive struggles in 2025 have officially entered uncharted waters

We have, literally, never seen a stretch as bad as this in Baltimore on defense.

The Baltimore Ravens‘ defense is falling apart at the seams. The defensive front has nearly the entire starting group sidelined, and injuries have begun to spring up throughout the back seven. Even before the injuries hit, the Ravens were struggling to play collectively as a unit and stop opposing offenses.

Baltimore is now 1-3 after its 37-20 Week 4 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. The score of this game is one thing. The record is another altogether. And with quarterback Lamar Jackson now banged up with a hamstring injury, the road to recovery in the standings is, well, dicey.

But forget about the 2025 aspirations right now. Instead, it’s worth reflecting on these first four weeks and just how bad things have been defensively.

Ravens’ unprecedented defensive streak in September offers discouraging signs to recover from tailspin

The Ravens have allowed 40 points, 38 points, and now 37 points. Kyle Hamilton quipped earlier this week that Ravens fans may be a bit “spoiled” at times due to the historic success of the franchise, but we’re far past the point of a glitch now. You’d be fully justified to hit the panic button.

How long has it been since the Ravens have allowed 37+ points three times in a four-game stretch? Great question. It’s never happened. Ever!

According to the archives at Pro Football Reference, there have been only a handful of times in Ravens’ history (since 1996) in which they have conceded 30+ points three times in a four-game stretch. The first of those instances came in the team’s first season in 1996, when they conceded 46, 45, and 31 points in a four-game stretch between Weeks 6-9. The same team allowed 30 points in Week 11 and 38 points in Week 12.

The only other season in which this stretch of points allowed happened was in 2007, when the team allowed 38, 33, and 32 points in Weeks 9-12 and then allowed 44 points in Week 14 to create a new streak of Weeks 11-14.

That’s it. That’s the company the 2025 Ravens are keeping. And with the injuries mounting and a tough October schedule waiting, it’s no guarantee things get better anytime soon.
