J.K. Dobbins’ 2023 campaign has come to an early close. Dobbins tore his Achilles during the third quarter of the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 1 home matchup against the Houston Texans, and he has been ruled out for the remainder of the ongoing season due to the injury.
This is the second season-ending injury of Dobbins’ run with the Ravens. He tore his ACL ahead of the 2021 campaign, and he wound up making his return to action in Week 3 of the 2022 season. As was the case during the injury recovery process from his torn ACL ailment, Dobbins plans to come back "stronger," as head coach John Harbaugh revealed on Monday.
"He texted me last night," Harbaugh said during a press conference on Monday. "We texted back and forth, and [he] told me not to worry [and that] he will be back better and stronger than before."
Dobbins is now set to go through yet another lengthy injury rehab, but the fourth-year running back is reportedly hoping to overcome the odds. According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Dobbins is "expected" to undergo surgery on Friday, and just as Los Angeles Rams running back Cam Akers managed to recover from a torn Achilles injury in less than six months, the former Ohio State standout is "aiming for a similar timeline."
Dobbins has tallied 1,524 yards from scrimmage and 13 total touchdowns in 24 regular season games played with Baltimore. He is set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season.
