The Baltimore Ravens had a few bright spots in their Week 3 home loss to the Indianapolis Colts. Among them, Kyle Hamilton put together one of the more prolific performances by any safety this season.
Hamilton was all over the place in Week 3, from being called on to regularly blitz to taking hold of the nickel position. Overall, the second-year safety tallied nine total tackles, three quarterback hits and one forced fumble against the Colts.
Hamilton also logged 3.0 sacks on the day, as he set the record for the most sacks in a first half by any Ravens player in team history. He also became the first Ravens defensive back to notch at least 3.0 sacks in a game since Bennie Thompson did so in the 1996 season.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh was quite pleased with Hamilton's potent showing in Week 3.
"I thought Kyle [Hamilton] played great," Harbaugh said after the game. "[He was] running pretty much all over the field [with] tackles, defending. [We] put him in that nickel position. He had to cover their receivers in the slot, all the different ones and run defense, obviously, space tackling — I thought he played great."
For Hamilton, he credits his career day to his teammates on the defensive side of the ball, including Jadeveon Clowney.
"Anytime you get edge blitzed like that, it's a team rush," Hamilton said after the game. "You have [Jadeveon] Clowney on the edge. He's one of the best pass rushers in this league. He's pretty much giving himself up so I can free up and get those sacks. We were joking about it going back and forth the whole game, but it's him doing his job allowing me to get TFLs and sacks.
"It just goes hand in hand. We were practicing it all week and executed it well."
Hamilton has now recorded 5.0 sacks in 19 regular season games played.
