The Baltimore Ravens allowed a mere one touchdown drive in their Week 5 road defeat to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and it occurred on a passing play that came out of the blue.
Steelers quarterback Kenny Pickett connected with George Pickens on a 41-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter of the divisional contest. Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald opted to roll with Cover 0 on the crucial second down play, and it was Pickens who wound up having the last laugh.
Ravens cornerback Marlon Humphrey covered Pickens on the play, and he had no excuses for where it went wrong for him on what turned out to be the game-winning score for Pittsburgh.
"It was just a throw and catch," Humphrey said after the game. "You kind of get beat sometimes when you blitz the house, and that was one of those times. So, obviously, you don't want to be on the other end of a game-winner, but it happens at the corner position.
“[You] just try to limit those to where you can contest those catches and hopefully break it up."
Pickett was far from surprised to see Pickens end up waltzing into the end zone.
"They went 'zero' (coverage)," Pickett said after the game. "We were preparing all week in those kinds of bigger moments that they were gonna go 'zero.' Got the protection right, gave George his route and he went up there and won.
"Big-time player making big-time plays in those moments and that's what we got in No. 14."
The Ravens are now set for a Week 6 matchup against the Tennessee Titans.
