It is typically around this point in the season that the contenders for the NFL MVP award start to separate themselves from the pretenders. Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson entered this season being deemed by many as a favorite for the award, and through 14 weeks in the campaign, he is still well in the conversation for the league’s most prestigious individual honor.
According to the FanDuel Sportsbook, Jackson boasts the third-best odds (+600) to win the 2023 NFL MVP award. Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott and San Francisco 49ers passer Brock Purdy are currently tied for the best such odds (+155).
Jackson much appreciates the endorsements that he has received by many to win the NFL MVP honor, but he has bigger goals in mind.
"It's an honor, just for me being acknowledged, just to be in that MVP conversation with great guys who [are] all up being nominated for [it]," Jackson said during a press conference on Wednesday. "But I'm just staying locked in.
"I'm trying to win, because I want another championship if anything, another trophy, if that means anything."
Jackson has led the way for the Ravens on offense this season. He has tallied 21 total touchdowns, and he has upped his game in multiple crucial contests, including in Baltimore’s home win over the Detroit Lions in Week 7. The one-time NFL MVP award winner logged four total touchdowns against the current NFC North leaders.
Jackson will have a pivotal opportunity in Baltimore’s upcoming road matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars on "Sunday Night Football" to boost his odds for this year’s NFL MVP award.
