Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith had quite a chaotic year in 2022.
Smith requested a trade from his now-former team in the Chicago Bears in Aug. 2022. The Bears ultimately opted not to part ways with the versatile linebacker ahead of the 2022 campaign, but just mere months later, they shipped him off to the Ravens in exchange for linebacker A.J. Klein and a pair of draft picks.
During a recent appearance on the "Punch Line with Marlon Humphrey" podcast, Smith took some time to reflect on the trade saga. He said that there were a few teams that he "thought" would make a push to acquire him.
"I thought like early in the year when I thought like I possibly could get traded, I thought it would have probably been somewhere like Dallas, Seattle, somewhere like that who kind of had needed an inside linebacker," Smith said.
Smith further noted that he "would have never thought" that the Ravens were going to end up acquiring him.
To Smith's surprise, the Ravens went all out to bring him in ahead of last season’s NFL trade deadline, and it is safe to say that the move has so far worked out well for both sides. Smith later signed off on a five-year, $100 million extension deal with the team, and he has since gone on to anchor Baltimore’s well-rounded defense.
Smith has tallied 126 total tackles and 1.5 sacks so far this season.
