The 2023 NFL season has come to a close, and the wait is now on for the start of the 2024 campaign. The 2024 NFL season is scheduled to kick off on Sept. 5.
As the reigning Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs will open up the 2024 season with a home matchup. The Chiefs kicked off the 2023 campaign at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, and it was the Detroit Lions who came away with an upset 21-20 win.
As ESPN’s Adam Schefter touched on X, the Chiefs will have eight home games on their schedule next season, including a trio of divisional contests against the Los Angeles Chargers, Denver Broncos, and Las Vegas Raiders.
It may be a longshot for the NFL to pencil in the Chargers, Broncos, or Raiders to face Kansas City in Week 1, especially as just one out of the last 10 regular season openers took place between two divisional rivals.
In the big picture, the Baltimore Ravens do make the most sense to meet the Chiefs in Week 1. The two AFC powerhouse squads last squared off in this year's AFC title game when Kansas City pulled off a dramatic 17-10 win to clinch a spot in Super Bowl 58.
Patrick Mahomes, who boasts a 4-1 record all-time against Baltimore, sure would like to open up next season with a statement victory against the reigning AFC North champions. The Ravens, on the other hand, would like nothing more than to face Kansas City right out of the gate.
The NFL is expected to release the full schedule for the 2024 season sometime in May.
