The Baltimore Ravens have placed tight end Mark Andrews on the injured reserve list, the team announced on Saturday. Andrews is now set to miss Baltimore’s next four games.
Andrews came away from Baltimore’s home win against the Cincinnati Bengals with a reported cracked fibula and ankle ligament injury. He suffered the ailments after being on the end of a hip-drop tackle from Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson during the first quarter of the divisional contest.
Ravens head coach John Harbaugh said after the game that Andrews has what "looks like a season-ending injury." He did later downplay concerns regarding the tight end’s injury.
"My understanding is, in talking with our trainer and the doctors, wasn't as bad as initially feared," Harbaugh said during a press conference on Monday. "… It wasn’t as bad as it could have been. It’s cleaner than they thought, based on the MRI."
Harbaugh also added that there "might be an outside chance" that Andrews could return to in-game action during this season.
Andrews reportedly underwent surgery on his ankle on Tuesday, and Harbaugh made clear on Wednesday that "everything went really well."
The Ravens are expected to call on Isaiah Likely to be their starting tight end amid Andrews’ absence. Likely has recorded nine receptions in 11 contests played this season.
