The Kansas City Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens put on a show in the 2024 season debut Thursday night. The Chiefs beat the Ravens by a score of 27-20 and it came down to the final play where Isaiah Likely's toe landed on the back line.
Earlier in the game, there was another controversial play, as there usually is with superstar quarterbacks who take off with the ball in their hands.
Roquan Smith calls out inactive Chiefs player
On a third and three in the fourth quarter, Patrick Mahomes scrambled for a first down. He ran out of bounds and got the first down. Once he got out of bounds, Roquan Smith got two hands on his shoulder and gave him a nice shove. It was blatantly out of bounds, but it wasn't called by the refs.
The shove had plenty of players and personnel rushing to Mahomes' defense and Smith acted innocent. In the above clip, a man wearing shorts and a t-shirt gave Smith a nice shove. Smith mentioned that postgame.
He is calling him 88 due to the person wearing shorts and a t-shirt being tight end Peyton Hendershot. He wasn't active for the game which is why he was in shorts. It will be interesting to see if the league gets involved for a player not suited up getting physical with a player on the other team.
That kind of callout is something that will certainly come up in the future, especially if these two teams meet in the playoffs again.
