Roquan Smith had quite the performance in the Baltimore Ravens’ Week 1 home win against the Houston Texans.
Smith was all over the place on the defensive side of the ball throughout the contest. The versatile linebacker tallied 16 total tackles on the day, as he recorded at least 15 total tackles in a game for the fifth time in his career.
Smith also logged two tackles for a loss, one quarterback hit and one sack in Baltimore’s 16-point home win over Houston. He sure upped his play in the late stages of the third quarter with a sack against Texans rookie C.J. Stroud.
Overall, Smith’s 16 total tackles against Houston are the most in a regular season opener in Ravens team history, as noted by the team's official X account. Pro Football Hall of Fame linebacker Ray Lewis previously held this record, as he tallied 14 total tackles in three different Week 1 matchups with Baltimore.
Smith said ahead of Baltimore’s home encounter with Houston that the team’s defense was "looking forward" to facing Stroud, in Week 1, and the unit sure rose to the occasion on the day. The Stroud-led Texans offense notched a lowly 3.7 yards per play average against Baltimore, and it failed to reach the end zone on both of its trips to the red zone.
Smith and the Ravens defense will now look ahead to a road contest against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
