Baltimore is reportedly adding a new target for quarterback Lamar Jackson.
Ravens sign veteran WR Russell Gage
No, it's certainly not a Brandon Aiyuk-level addition at the receiver spot. No one should believe that.
That being said, injuries have plagued the position for Baltimore in recent years. adding Gage gives them a good baseline veteran with plenty of NFL experience who sits down a ways on the depth chart.
The Ravens need him because their WR depth chart possesses only four players who caught a pass last season. That stat includes Tylan Wallace, who only caught one pass.
Gage missed the entire 2023 season after suffering a torn patellar tendon last August. Gage has totaled 244 career receptions, 2,491 yards, and 14 touchdowns in his pro career. Solid numbers for a player who is still just 28 years old.
Zay Flowers, Rashid Bateman, and Nelson Agholor headline the WR depth chart in Baltimore.
Expect Gage to battle with Tylan Wallace, Deonte Harty, Keith Kirkwood, and rookie Devontez Walker for a roster spot in 2024. The preseason could decide which of those players lock down a role for the Ravens offense this season.
