The hip-drop tackle debate reignited during the Baltimore Ravens’ home matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals in November.
Mark Andrews’ regular season came to an end after he was on the end of a hip-drop tackle from Bengals linebacker Logan Wilson during the divisional game. Wilson garnered much outside criticism for completing such a tackle on Andrews, but the veteran tight end holds no grudge against him.
"It was kind of just an unfortunate event," Andrews said on Thursday. "I'm going to let everybody else do their thing. If they want to ban the tackle, fine, but I'm going to go out there and play hard no matter what. I don't blame the guy. He's just playing ball."
Andrews added that he suffered "kind of" the same injury that Terrell Owens sustained during a regular season game between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Dallas Cowboys in Dec. 2004. Owens came away from the contest with a fractured fibula and an ankle sprain injury. The longtime wideout still went on to play in Super Bowl 39 two months later.
Owens underwent quite an extensive injury rehab, which included the use of a hyperbaric oxygen chamber. Andrews noted on Thursday that he also decided to incorporate a hyperbaric oxygen chamber in his injury recovery process.
"I talked about the hyperbaric oxygen chamber," Andrews said. "I think that's been big for me [to] help speed up that process and everything in the training room. These guys had an incredible plan in place since Day One. We followed that, and it's been really good."
All eyes now turn to whether the Ravens will activate Andrews from the injured reserve list ahead of their AFC divisional round matchup against the Houston Texans.
