The injury bug has continued to hit the Baltimore Ravens’ secondary.
Marlon Humphrey suffered a calf injury during the first quarter of the Ravens’ home matchup against the Miami Dolphins. The veteran cornerback sustained the injury during kicker Jason Sanders’ 27-yard field goal attempt. He went down on the play and then limped off the field.
Humphrey subsequently made his way into the medical tent but returned to the sideline mere minutes later. The Ravens later ruled him as questionable to return due to his calf ailment.
Humphrey sat out the remainder of the first half, as he instead spent much time testing out his calf on the sideline.
Baltimore wound up ruling out Humphrey for the rest of the game before the start of the second half.
Humphrey has a history of calf injuries. For one, he missed two games due to a calf ailment sustained in the Ravens’ home loss to the Cleveland Browns in November.
As mentioned, the Ravens have been dealing with quite a few injuries within their secondary as of late. Among them, Brandon Stephens (ankle) and Kyle Hamilton (knee) each were listed as questionable against Miami due to their respective injuries, and the two defensive backs were ultimately ruled out for the contest. Stephens at the least worked out his ankle during pregame warmups, but he did not go on to receive the green light to play on Sunday.
To make matters worse for Baltimore, Daryl Worley suffered a concussion during the second half against the Dolphins. Ravens head coach John Harbaugh did downplay concerns about Worley’s concussion in his postgame press conference, noting that during the game, the training staff told him that "if we had an emergency, he could go back in."
It will be noteworthy to see whether any of these four defensive backs will end up playing in the Ravens’ regular season finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Baltimore has already clinched the No. 1 seed in the AFC thanks to its win over Miami.
