After months of anticipation for his NFL debut, Baltimore Ravens wideout Zay Flowers sure lived up to the early hype against the Houston Texans.
Flowers was the do-it-all player for the Lamar Jackson-led Ravens offense in Week 1. The former Boston College standout was targeted 10 times on Sunday, and he wound up hauling in nine catches for 78 receiving yards. He also rushed the ball twice for nine yards.
As was the case during training camp and the preseason, Flowers showed off his speed and agility as he sure frustrated Houston’s secondary throughout the contest.
Overall, Flowers’ nine catches against the Texans are the most by a Ravens rookie in a regular season opener in team history, as noted by StatMuse.
Flowers did come close to breaking the record for the most catches in a game by a Ravens rookie. Javorius Allen still holds this record, as the former running back tallied 12 receptions in the Ravens’ Week 13 road loss to the Miami Dolphins in the 2015 season.
For Flowers, he was much pleased with how his NFL debut panned out.
"Honestly, I was just pleased to get some catches," Flowers said during his post-game press conference. "In my head, I was like, 'Two catches. I'll be good with that [for my] first game.' [We] got the win. As long as we win, I was alright."
Flowers will look to put together an encore performance when the Ravens meet the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 2.
