Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald spent the combined last 10 years working with and learning from Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh and Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh.
Macdonald first joined the Ravens back in 2014, and he went on to take on multiple coaching roles while in the organization. Among them, he served as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator for two years, which came on the heels of a one-season run as defensive coordinator for the Jim-led Michigan Wolverines.
There is much that Macdonald took away from his time with the Harbaugh brothers, including their sheer dedication to simply getting the best out of their players.
"It’s a lot of who I am," Macdonald said on the "Brock and Salk" show. "It really is. I mean, that’s been my experience the last 10 years. I’ve really been shaped through those two organizations. … They’re as real as it gets, and the players realize that.
"Their motive is what’s best for the team and what’s best for the players. They have their players’ backs, and they’re ready to go to war."
Macdonald added that just as both John and Jim have stressed over their coaching careers, it is always crucial to do "what’s best for the team."
A pivotal coming weeks await Macdonald, especially as the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine and the start of this year’s free agency period are just right around the corner.
