The upcoming AFC divisional round matchup between the Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens will be the third time that DeMeco Ryans will game plan against Lamar Jackson.

Ryans’ first clash with Jackson occurred during his second season as defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers. The Ryans-led 49ers defense held Jackson to a mere 206 total yards in Week 13 of the 2019 season, but the three-time Pro Bowler did at the least score two touchdowns in the contest.

Ryans’ second encounter with Jackson came back in Week 1 of this season when the sixth-year passer logged 169 passing yards and one interception against Houston.

While Ryans has enjoyed a bit of success against Jackson, he sees that it is never easy when facing the all-around quarterback.

"Yeah, you can throw as many things at Lamar as you want to, but he finds a way to make plays," Ryans said during a press conference on Tuesday. "That’s what makes him a special player.

"No matter what type of looks he’s gotten on tape, he’s made a ton of teams pay because of his play-making ability. He’s seen a lot, made a lot of plays, so it’s going to be a challenge no matter what we present or what we throw at him."

The Texans will look to slow down a quarterback in Jackson who capped off regular season play on a strong note. He recorded 12 touchdown passes and a 107.9 passer rating in his final five such contests of the year.
