The Baltimore Ravens are moving on from a high-profile move this offseason amid struggles that everyone probably should have seen coming
Baltimore Ravens LEGEND Jaire Alexander!
The Baltimore Ravens have found themselves on the right side of both of their games since the bye week. It’s got Baltimore dreaming big and hoping that all the buzz surrounding their prospective comeback this season is going to end up being manifested. If it does, one veteran addition who was perceived to be a big piece of the puzzle this offseason is suddenly going to not be along for the ride.
The Ravens are reportedly trading cornerback Jaire Alexander to the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ravens trade cornerback Jaire Alexander to the Philadelphia Eagles in a late-round pick swap
Baltimore went out on a limb amid some recruitment from QB Lamar Jackson this summer to sign cornerback Jaire Alexander to their ranks — a move that they hoped would create a star-studded secondary that would give the Ravens a pair of lockdown corners. The move, in reality, has been anything but a success.
The Ravens saw Alexander miss loads of time come training camp amid issues with his chronic knee injury. He’s dressed in just two of Baltimore’s eight games this season, playing 61 defensive snaps and allowing a passer rating of 118.7 when targeted in coverage according to Pro Football Reference. To say that the signing of Alexander has been a failure would be an understatement.
Now, the Ravens are punting on the rest his one-year contract — shipping him to Philadelphia for pennies on the dollar. On one hand, the Ravens tried. You can tip your cap for that, especially since Alexander came on a discount to play with his college teammate in Jackson. But the move in and of itself felt a bit out of character for the Ravens and the fact that Alexander has struggled with the same issues that plagued him in Green Bay makes you wonder how the Ravens couldn’t see this coming.
At this point. It’s water under the bridge. And it’s also the Eagles problem to figure out the rest of the way.
