The Baltimore Ravens offense is going to have a different feel to it in 2023 and rookie wide receiver Zay Flowers is expected to be a big part of the movement.
So far, he's had a really good training camp and preseason. There have been multiple highlights of him making incredible catches, running crisp routes, and doing other things that persuaded the Ravens to take him with the 22nd overall pick in the NFL Draft.
The offseason success continued on Monday Night Football when Flowers used his dynamic ability to take a short pass 26-yards all the way to the house for six points:
It's a great play call from Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken. The formation is 11 personnel but the tight splits indicate run. Plus, it's 1st and 10, which is the most neutral down because it truly is a 50/50 chance of pass or run. The down and distance, along with the great play fake, causes the Commanders defense to bite and Flowers is essentially lost in the mix.
The safety takes the deep route by the slot receiver and that's what opens up the field for Flowers to take off into the end zone. By the time the defense catches up, Flowers' quickness and speed had already taken over.
We can't ignore the excellent downfield block from Devin Duvernay, either. That's textbook and he'll certainly get praised in the film room.
You can't ask for a better opening drive if you're the Ravens.
Commanders player takes unnecessary shot at Ravens ahead of Monday night matchup
That was quite the statement.
