Despite being removed from the injury report on Friday, the New England Patriots listed Trent Brown as a healthy scratch prior to Sunday's game.
And after the game Bill Belichick was asked about this situation. But as expected, he didn't give much away.
"We played the players we wanted to play," he said and was then asked if motivation has been an issue. ""You'd have to talk to whoever gave that report."
Brown has been very outspoken in recent weeks, specifically when speaking with A to Z Sports. And after the inactive list was announced, the Boston Herald's Doug Kyed provided some additional information.
"Since Brown missed time with knee and ankle injuries at midseason, meaning he wouldn’t receive all of his increased pay, they’ve had trouble keeping him motivated over the final weeks of the season, according to a source,” Kyed wrote.
Along with the ankle and knee injuries, Brown was all dealing with an illness this past week. Yet, there is speculation that this benching is based on motivation along with his recent comments to the media.
The offensive tackle is set to be a free agent after this season and it appears he is certainly going to look elsewhere and see what other options he has outside of New England.
"We already had that opportunity," Brown told A to Z Sports earlier this week. "We have had plenty of opportunities to get that done. I mean, I'm not opposed to it, but we are at the end of the season…
"… It'd be kind of like, I feel like I'd be kind of doing myself a disservice to not see what other opportunities are out there, just at this point."
