After being named the new head coach of the New England Patriots, Jerod Mayo knew that there were two coaches he wanted to keep on staff.

And so Mayo made offers to both Steve and Brian Belichick to remain with the Patriots despite their father going in another direction.

While one decided to go in another direction, it seems the other is staying with the team.

According to ESPN's Mike Reiss, safeties coach Brian Belichick is staying.

Brian Belichick started with the team in 2016 as a scouting assistant, but was promoted to coaching assistant from 2017 to 2019. In 2020, he was moved to safeties coach.

The 2024 season will mark his ninth year with the team.

Steve Belichick, who shared defensive coordinator duties last season with Mayo, was also offered the position. But the Patriots decided to go in a different direction for next season, naming an official coordinator. And it wasn't Steve Belichick who they called.

Instead, they decided to promote DeMarcus Covington.

So Steve Belichick moved on and took the defensive coordinator position at the University of Washington.

The news of Brian Belichick remaining with the team ends an exciting day for the Patriots front office, who made some big hires. And that includes Alonzo Highsmith as a front office executive.

This is also the third defensive hire that Mayo has made, with Covington being promoted to defensive coordinator and Jerry Montgomery reportedly being hired as defensive line coach

Let's see who else they bring in.
