Could superstar wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins suit up for the Buffalo Bills in 2023?
It feels like that's a question that we've been discussing since just after the Super Bowl in February.
The Hopkins saga has continued all offseason with no clear end in sight. Hopkins is currently under contract with the Arizona Cardinals, but there have been plenty of rumblings that he could be traded or released before the 2023 season.
It's no secret that Hopkins would like to play for the Bills. He's praised Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen publicly and he's suggested several times that he's open to the idea of playing for the Bills this fall.
Whether or not that happens is anyone's guess at this point. As wild as the NFL has been the last few years, it wouldn't surprise me if Hopkins is in a Buffalo uniform in 2023. It also wouldn't surprise me if he remains in Arizona.
While Bills fans seem excited about the idea of adding Hopkins to the roster, former NFL Pro Bowl defensive lineman Gerald McCoy isn't so sure it's what the team needs.
McCoy, who retired from the NFL after the 2021 season, appeared on NFL Network's "Good Morning Football" on Tuesday and he suggested that offense isn't what the Bills need to be worried about addressing ahead of the 2023 season.
"But to really be that team (that wins a Super Bowl), you can't every year get to this point and then just like, 'oh, well, we don't know what it is, we have to figure a way to get over the hump' — I don't think bringing in more offense is the thing because they're at the top of the league in offense every year," said McCoy. "I think it's when you get into the playoffs, that's when everybody elevates their game. Buffalo has to get to that moment and just elevate their game. I don't believe that adding D-Hop (Hopkins)– I mean, who wouldn't want D-Hop — but I don't think that puts them over the top."
McCoy isn't wrong. The Bills were the No. 2 scoring offense in the NFL in 2022. And they were No. 2 in points allowed. Statistically, they were possibly the best team in the NFL. But they didn't elevate their game when it came playoff time. That's the next step for the Bills if they want to win a Super Bowl. And until they do that, it won't matter which stud wide receivers they add to the roster.
