The Buffalo Bills and New York Jets are underway, with Buffalo holding a strong lead at halftime. There was a scary moment in the contest when quarterback Josh Allen appeared to take a shot to the face and was bleeding from his nose.

Allen was off the field for only a few plays before reentering the contest, which brought a sigh of relief to the Bills Mafia.

Anytime Allen goes down, it’s a scary sight since the success of the season rests largely on his shoulders. Mitch Trubisky did come and throw a nice pass in Allen’s absence, but having him on the field is of the utmost importance.

First half takeaways from Bills vs. Jets

Our biggest takeaways from the first half are that James Cook’s contract was worth every penny, Allen is doing enough despite a tough Jets defense, and Joey Bosa and the entire defense woke up after a rough Week 1 performance.

Cook broke free for a long touchdown, taking some stress off the signal-caller and extending the team’s lead. Cook had two touchdowns in the first half and is proving why he was worth that massive payday in the offseason. In the first half, He has 10 carries for 83 yards and two scores.

While Allen isn’t setting the league on fire with his first-half performance, he’s done enough to keep the team in a good spot heading into the second half. He has done a bulk of damage with his legs, breaking free for a 40-yard run during the team’s first possession. In the first half, Allen is eight-of-16 for 70 yards while adding three carries for 47 yards on the ground.

Allen’s run marks the third longest of his career and his longest since Week 15 of 2022 against the Dolphins.

Bills’ defense shows up in first half vs. Jets

Perhaps the biggest takeaway from the first half is that of the defense. From the jump, Matt Milano made his presence felt, and the team has carried that intensity throughout the first half.

What’s more, Joey Bosa already made a huge impact through his first two games as a Buffalo Bill. Bosa had a forced fumble on Justin Fields, which marks back-to-back games in which he’s accomplished such a feat.

The defense, despite Ed Oliver being out of the contest, has made life difficult for Fields and the Jets. The unit limited the Jets to only five first downs and 23 total plays with 78 yards in the first half. Zion Logue was called up from the practice squad ahead of the contest and helped Greg Rousseau with a sack. Even with Oliver out, others have stepped up to make an impact.

The Bills Mafia was worried about how the defense would answer after Baltimore scored 40 points on them in Week 1, and the early returns should ease some of the minds of the beloved fan base.

While Fields and the offense marched down the field in the closing seconds of the first half, there was still plenty for the Bills fans to be happy about heading into the second half.
