The Cincinnati Bengals eliminated the Buffalo Bills from the playoffs on Sunday.
Cincinnati's 27-10 win against Buffalo will give Josh Allen and the Bills plenty to think about this offseason.
After the game, Bengals wide receiver Ja'Marr Chase, one of the top players in the NFL, floated an odd conspiracy theory. Chase insinuated that the NFL wanted the Bills to reach the AFC Championship game.
"We were proving people wrong," said Chase. "The NFL was doing stuff to get the Bills to go to the Super Bowl. They’re trying to make it seem like we’re not ready."
I assume he's referring to Allen's incompletion that could've been ruled a fumble.
That's a subjective call that could go either way. And anyone who has watched the NFL for very long has seen it go either way. You could essentially flip a coin on that call.
That hardly qualifies as the NFL "doing things" to get the Bills to the Super Bowl. And I certainly don't think anyone thinks the Bengals "aren't ready". That obviously doesn't matter, but even that argument doesn't make sense. Cincinnati, after all, won the AFC last season and nearly beat the Los Angeles Rams in the Super Bowl.
I guess the Bengals needed some motivation to beat the Bills. And it worked, so it's hard to fault them for it. But Chase's "conspiracy theory" is nothing but nonsense.
