The Buffalo Bills run the AFC East. That much is certain.

After the decline of the Bills of the 90s, there wasn't much to brag about. For 24 years, the Bills didn't win the division. It was two decades of pure domination from Bill Belichick and Tom Brady's New England Patriots with some outlier years like 2008 (Dolphins) and 2002 (Jets).

But for three straight years now, it's been the Bills' kingdom. They've won the division in three consecutive years and with Josh Allen at quarterback, there are not a lot of reasons why to think that will stop anytime soon.

But a massive trade this offseason could change the way we look at things in the AFC East.

Bills could face heavy competition if mock trade comes true

Marcus Mosher from Pro Football Focus put together an article listing "5 NFL trades that could shake up the 2023 offseason" which you can check out here.

The most intriguing one, particularly to the Bills, involves Aaron Rodgers going to the New York Jets. Considering Rodgers' retirement is near and that his relationship with the Packers once more looks like it's in trouble, this is a very feasible scenario.

It also would make the Jets legit contenders within the division right away. After all, they had seven wins in 2022 with Zach Wilson, Mike White, and even Joe Flacco playing quarterback. Heck, former CFL champion Chris Streveler got a start in Week 16.

"Rodgers would walk into one of the best situations in the league with a dynamic receiving corps, a young offensive line, and one of the top defenses in the NFL," writes Marcus Mosher in the PFF article.

Consider this: The Jets might finish the season with not one but TWO rookie of the year awards. CB Sauce Gardner has it all locked up and WR Garrett Wilson is the second odds-on favorite to win OROY.

They also finished the season as the fifth-best defense in DVOA.

I don't think that trade would shift the odds as to who's favorite to win the division in 2023, of course. The Bills would likely remain the favorites after what they've shown over the past three years.

But suddenly, Buffalo could find itself in a close race against the Miami Dolphins and the Jets. And who knows, you can never rule out the Patriots. Get Rodgers in New York and you've got one of the best divisions in all of football.
