Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane has earned the benefit of the doubt as he's been a crucial part of the turnaround the franchise has experienced since arriving at 1 Bills Dr., Orchard Park in 2017.

He's turned things around with a solid, sometimes aggressive, team-building process that has yielded a 73-41 regular season record since his first year on the team, the fourth-best in the NFL during that span.

Now, he's using the trust he's gained after controversially moving on from superstar wide receiver Stefon Diggs while accepting a humongous $31 million chunk of dead money in the salary cap.

"I mean, are we better today? Probably not," Beane told reporters on Wednesday. "It's a work in progress, and we're going to continue to work on that. I would just hope that people know I'm as competitive as hell, and I'm not giving in. We're going to work through this, and we're going to continue to look, and I'm confident in the guys we have on the roster. And I'm confident in the staff we have upstairs that helps me, that we'll continue to find pieces to add, and that we'll be ready to roll when it comes time in September."

Beane's words shouldn't be taken lightly. Although the opening weeks of NFL free agency are in the rearview mirror, several quality free agents remain available including Tyler Boyd and Odell Beckham Jr. among others. Additionally, the draft should present a solid opportunity to draft a starting-caliber wide receiver or even to move up in the order to take a top-tier prospect at the position.

Not to mention, they could also look into trading for a proven, battle-tested wide receiver on another team.

In other words, there's time, which led to Brandon Beane sending a powerful message to the Bills Mafia:

"I would say it's not September, and I'm going to repeat that," Beane said. "Every team is a new team, every year is a new year, and we haven't even had the draft yet. So, I don't think it's fair to assess what the 2024 Bills are going to look like, right? It's April the 3rd. We play in September. So, let's be patient and let us work through this."

"Was it easy? No. But you're always, if you make the best decision for the Bills going forward, that's all you can do. You can trust that. This organization and our fan base need to trust that we're going to trot out a damn good team come September. That's our plan, and that's not changing."

I don't know about you, but to me that doesn't sound like a GM thinking rebuild ahead of 2024.
